Give it a try, if you have the time.
I had read this series in about 4th grade, but stopped reading at the 13th book because it got boring. Now, 2 years later, I decided to give it another try for Summer Reading. Overall, this book surprised me. I felt it was well written, with tons of detail. But that was also the problem. Some of the scenes got so gory, I wanted to put down the book! I realized how much I liked the individuality of the main characters. This is basically them in real life: Clay: Dumb but affectionate jock. Tsunami: Bold, selfless girl with a TEMPER! Glory: Girl in the background with more value than she could ever know. Sunny: Excitable, loyal little girl. Starflight: Very smart, but a bit too proud. The thing I liked most about the book was the characters. There was also very good world-building, and some of the made-up insults made me laugh. And whoa- I do not remember this book having so much romance! There is a subplot of a character that I will not name, but let's just say there is a lot of writing involving who Clay is in love with totally Team Peril here!. And there were also some scenes that made me cry. looking at you, Cattail. One of the things I did not like was the perspective. It just seemed like Clay's perspective was completely oh-no-my-friends-are-in-trouble. That was a little annoying. Also the book ends on a COMPLETE CLIFFHANGER! Looking forward to the next one, The Lost Heir, from Tsunami's perspective. Also suggested: The Warriors Series, pretty much anything Erin Hunter.
