It's told like a folktale, mostly realistic but some aspects of slight magic. I loved how it was based on cooking and about recipes. I'd love to try and make one from the book!

This book is really poetic. It's a romantic-style folk-tale with hints of magic. It's outside what I usually read but it's actually very interesting and a unique perspective.

I had a difficult time getting into this novel, as it was one on my reading list for school. Though I tried to resist, the fact that reading it was necessary, seemed to lessen my enjoyment. It took a little bit to get into, but it ended up being the perfect airplane read. The story had a rather confusing mash of realism and extraordinary, but the characters were intriguing and the plot compelling. It was vital to focus while reading, as time passed quickly, and important events could easily be missed. The language was beautiful, and the usage of recipe helped propel the novel along, while adding a whole other dimension to it. This is a classic, and should be read at some point!
