Warning - SPOILER! Most books that go into deep and sensitive topics like drugs and more adult-related topics can get uncomfortable to read but this book goes deeper and hooks the reader into more of the exciting action that has yet to come. The House of the Scorpion by Nancy Farmer shows the life of Matteo Alacrán, a clone that was illegally created in the land of Opium run by a drug lord called El Patrón. The land of Opium is between the United States and Mexico's border. Matteo was raised by a woman named Celia, who was a cook for the Alacrán family household. When Matteo came to understands the world around him he found out that he was being treated differently because he was a clone. When El Patrón comes to visit on his birthday he treats Matteo with respect which makes Matteo feel welcome and appreciated. After certain events, he finds out that he was not loved at all by El Patrón and instead was supposed to be used as an organ donor so El Patrón could live longer but Celia cuts El Patrón's life short. Now in the end Matteo has to deal with El Patrón's legacy and makes sure Opium stays in control. Also suggested: The Lord of Opium by Nancy Farmer
