Though I had to read it in school, it was a thrilling read and provided deep insight into Roman culture. I began the book expecting to be bored beyond reckoning, but was shocked to discover that I was drawn into the journey of Aeneas from his desolated homeland of Troy to found the city of Rome, told by an author attempting to instill virtues into the Roman people. Having read other ancient epics, this one stands out from the others by creating real emotional connection. Also suggested: The Illiad
