This is a great book! My Grandpa got it for me, and I loved every page of it. It is very powerful and leaves a lasting impression on anyone who reads it. It is a story about a 16-year old African-American girl named Starr. One night after a party, she and her best friend are pulled over by a cop. Her friend makes a bad decision and doesn't follow the cop's orders, and is fatally shot by the cop. The book follows Starr as there are investigations, protests, marches, and much more!

I think this book is revolutionary and I'm not kidding. Angie Thomas tells the story of an African American teen, Starr, who witnesses the shooting of her friend Khalil. But this wasn't by a criminal. He was killed by a policeman. What's even worse is that many are blaming Khalil for the his death. He was unarmed. Meanwhile, Starr has to balance her life in a bad neighborhood with life at her fancy white school. This book will surely raise your awareness of the problems that black teens all over the country face. I give this book 2 thumbs up, and 6 stars if I was able to.
