Scythe

Give it a try, if you have the time.
Scythe is the first in The Arc of Scythe series by Neal Shusterman. In total there are four books. The central theme of the series is the unfortunate side effects of human immortality. There is a lot of discussion about death, dying and some about suicide, so be warned. This book focuses on two teenagers, Citra and Rowan who are chosen to train as Scythes together. At first, they do not want to become Scythes but then they get involved in a whole tangle of intrigue and mystery. It is both a coming-of-age story and an adventure. Thunderhead and The Toll continue Citra and Rowan’s story. The fourth book Gleanings is a collection of short stories set in the same universe. Also suggested: thunderhead

The world building in this book was truly incredible, and the characters had very distinct personalities. I'd say the most prominent part of this book is the philosophical thinking, which often clearly appears at the end of each chapter in a journal entry by different Scythes. Great book, really makes you think. Also suggested: Thunderhead (It's the second book)
