In the beginning, I thought that I was reading a simple book with simple phrases that make simple ideas. However, as I got into the book, I realized that it has a deeper meaning. As the reader goes through Katie's thoughts, they can see that as she is growing older her thoughts are getting more complex and so is the story. All of a sudden, everything's not so black and white anymore. It also had many themes and was based on realistic situations and mature topics. This is a heart-warming novel that I believe everyone should read. Also suggested: The Thing about Luck (Cynthia Kadohata)
