I thought this book was very well written, and I liked it. I will not lie and say that I didn't cry when I was reading it. The book was a little confusing at times, and the ending didn't make much sense. The book was kind of realistic fiction, but there was some fantasy aspects in the story. The mystical Grey Man that haunts the lighthouse, and is trapped there until he can find someone to take his place or collects one thousand souls that die on the water. That aspect consumed the plot, and it seemed to be the only thing the protagonist focused on. The book switched between realistic aspects and fantasy, and I didn't like that very much. Realistic and fantasy mixed do not make good books, in my opinion, but I liked the book nonetheless. The book was good, but it was kind of stereotypical. A small town girl, her brother dies, her life is spiraling downhill, and she doesn't enjoy school. However, I was able to look past that, and enjoy the book. The book reminded me that even though life may seem to be falling apart, love still binds us, and it will get better. I didn't enjoy some of the book, but overall it was well written, and very raw.
