Beaverton Severe Weather Shelter Volunteers

The Beaverton Severe Weather Shleter will be open on Thursdays from 5:30 pm to 6:30 am, from November 7, 2019 — March 31, 2020 at the Beaverton Community Center (12350 SW 5th St) for adults 18+. The shelter is a collaboration between the city of Beaverton, Just Compassion and Meals on Wheels. Volunteers must be 18 years and older and demonstrate a commitment to serving homeless individuals.

Volunteer Opportunities and Availability

Greeters / Servers (4:30 - 8:30 pm)

Greet / sign-in guests and check bags. Set up sleeping pads, distribute bedding, set up tables for serving dinner and reheat food delivered by Meals on Wheels according to proper standards. Serve dinner and then clean up the serving area/kitchen.

Overnight Host (8 pm - 5:30 am)

Join guests for dinner, direct social time after dinner (card games, board games), stay overnight and help serve a light grab-an-go breakfast in the morning.

Friday Morning Hosts (5 - 7 am)

Arrive early before the alarm clock goes off! Help set up and serve breakfast, check out guests and hand out bus passes, collect laundry and clean / store the mats and other supplies.
