Give it a try, if you have the time.
I have always had an interest in the Pacific Crest Trail, and possibly hiking it someday. Because of that, Wild: From Lost To Found on the Pacific Crest Trail seemed like an obvious must-read. Even just a few pages in, I found it extremely entertaining and absorbing, in a way that I have not seen for quite a while. The pages are dense, the words tiny, and yet I consumed it like it was nothing. I loved following Strayed through the trail, over hills and mountains, as she struggled along. I liked seeing how she changed throughout the book. I was extremely affected by a few moments in the book about Strayed's mother's death might have shed a tear. At the end of the book, I felt mostly satisfied. All of that said, there are frustrating parts of the book for the reader, parts that made me cringe. The majority of Wild seems to take place in the towns along the way, or in flashbacks about Strayed's life before the trail. While I enjoyed some portions, it wasn't what I expected and I would be hesitant to recommend it to most people. Also suggested: A Walk in the Woods
