American as Paneer Pie is a really good book about Lekha Divekar, an Indian-American eleven-year-old living in Oakridge, Michigan. She has allies like her neighbors Noah and Avantika, but is isolated in school and on the swim team for being different. Although the teasing and racism gets worse and worse, both in and out of school, Lekha can't find it in herself to stand up and speak out. I liked this book because anyone who feels isolated and weird for being or looking different can relate, and anyone can learn the important of advocating for yourself and others.
