BEAVERTON CITY COUNCIL INESS ROUNDTABLE CALL TO ORDER: The Business Roundtable Meeting of the Beaverton City Council was called to order by Mayor Rob Drake in the Forrest C. Soth Council Chamber, City Hall, 4755 SW Griffith Drive, Beaverton, Oregon at 6:00 p.m.    Present were Mayor Drake, Couns. Betty Bode, Dennis Doyle, Fred Ruby, Forrest Soth and Cathy Stanton.  Also present were Chief of Staff Linda Adlard, Economic Development Manager Janet Young and City Recorder Sue Nelson.  Guest speakers present were: Larry Wade, Dan McGee and Mona Westhaver.  TOPIC AND GUEST SPEAKERS: The topic of discussion was the status of the software industry.  Guest speakers for this presentation were: Larry Wade, President, Software ssociation of explained that SAO was formed in 1989 to assist software organizations.  He services SAO provided to its members and communities gave an overview of the computer and information technology said the Association support school higher in the area; which a critical need in this country. Dan McGee, Program Director, Linux Technology Center, IBM, xplained how Center was developed and that Linux was a technology program used world Mona Westhaver, President, Inspiration Software, reviewed the history of the company and that Inspiration Software was packaged education software program that provided tools to help students learn to think and be creative She said the core of Oregon’s usiness growth would not be in large companies; there were many small and medium sized companies that were more likely to stay and grow here with support.  re was general discussion on education needs.  The speakers stressed that schools need to develop thinking, feeling, creative, well rounded individuals.  today’s software industry needed people who underst ness, marketing sales; use technolo y as a tool.  Jobs of the future will technical professional careers (business, medicine, engineering where technology s only a tool. The Mayor and Council thanked them for their presentations.
